The Internet Sucks by Dana Webster
My relationship, as a writer and as a human being, with the internet is a problematic one. As it should be. We should all be concerned with issues of privacy, agency, creativity, and integrity. Generally speaking, the internet, as it has devolved to be, is a shit show. And that’s even before the introduction of the for sure treacherous territory of AI.
I fantasize about writing a blog or a newsletter or a story, printing it onto paper and mailing it out to your address (with your permission, of course). Old school. At least you’d know that what you were reading was actually written by me. Or, I don’t know, maybe not - how cynical of reality we have become.
My blog has moved all over the place from one platform to another. Like Goldilocks, I haven’t found the right fit, the right temperature and I realize now that is because having a presence on the internet, as a whole, feels prickly and oversized. The ick factor intensifies as the days go on.
So, below you will find my new iteration of blog posts. In total, I’ve written well over a hundred, possibly two, but those are housed elsewhere for now. I have Subscribe buttons on the website and I’d be happy for you to do so. No hard sell: chasing engagement in a world of fleeting relationships has worn me out.
It’s the best I can do in a world gone mad. Or, at least until I figure out how to share my writing in a way that feels less yuck all ‘round.
